After
the worst drought in living memory Turkana experienced rain, lots of it. We spent many wet times in Nakapelewoi with Etukoit and Nachukuli, and were interested to see how much of their life seems elastic with the coming and going of rain. Yet things do not of course return completely to normal after rain, and they could tell us about wider changes over a longer time scale - ones occurring not just with changing droughts but also with humanitarian interventions focused on the
short-term and on food aid.
An article I wrote tracing the history of aid and its impact on the lives of Etukoit and her husband Nachukuli - as much in their own words as possible - was published in an edition of the journal 'Development' at the following link: http://www.palgrave-journals.com/development/journal/v55/n4/abs/dev201281a.html
